My goal for this book is very simple; to write the best fat loss book for you, as my metaphorical client. The weight loss industry is a minefield of misinformation and losing fat is the most sought after goal in the fitness world, so lots of you feel confused about what works and what doesn't. It is estimated that over half of US adults go on a diet at least once in a 12-month period, but despite the prevalence of dieting attempts, body weights have been gradually trending up across the world, and I suspect more of you feel like you are struggling with your body weight than ever before. I have been making free social media content for over 13 years, trying to answer all of your questions to the best of my ability, but I cannot go into as much detail on social media as I can in a book. This book is quite literally, everything I think you need to know about fat loss, compiled into one handy resource.
No, and you don't want it to be one either. Diet plans come and go like fashion trends, and just like fashion trends, all of you have your own personal preferences. If I gave you all one specific diet plan to follow, some of you would get great results, some of you would get mediocre results and some of you would detest it so much you wouldn't be able to stick with it and all you have done is wasted money on another book that under delivers on its promises. Any book that tries selling you one specific diet plan that everyone should follow is doing at least some of you a massive disservice.
No, and in my opinion, any book that even gently implies this is talking absolute shit. If there was one diet plan or set of nutrition tips that guaranteed everyone would effortlessly lose any body fat they wanted to get rid of, I would have already told you that repeatedly on my social media channels, for free. One of the reasons fat loss is such a sought after goal is because it is hard and strategies need to be personalised to you if you want to stand a chance of getting sustainable results. Revolutionary diet plans simply do not exist, and the sooner everyone understands this, the better. You can waste a lot of time and effort looking for the elusive holy grail, and that time could have been better spent focusing on things that can actually benefit you.
I spent most of my career working in commercial gyms with a very diverse range of clients, and have been delivering content on social media that is seen by millions of people every single week, so I am used to delivering information in a way that is useful to as many of you as possible. Fat loss is a topic which is sought after by people ranging from hardcore bodybuilders temporarily dieting down to dick skin levels of body fat for their next competition, to middle-aged housewives who train from home, are fed up of yo-yo diets and just want to feel a little healthier instead of obsessing about the number on the scales. I have written this book in a way that is useful to both ends of the spectrum and all of you in between. If you want to lose body fat, this book is for you. If you have spent too much of your life trying to lose body fat and getting nowhere, this book is also for you. If you have no interest in losing body fat but enjoy reading about it as a topic, this book is for you as well.
When I was working as a full time personal trainer, my goal was to deliver the best results for you as my client, and to do this I operated with a transparency policy where I would tell you in advance if I didn't think I was the right person to help you. By telling you on day one before you have spent any money, it helps ensure client satisfaction across the board, rather than you giving me your money and regretting it later. I believe that this book should be in keeping with my moral compass, so it is important to add a disclaimer. Whilst I try to navigate important topics as delicately as possible, if you have been diagnosed with an eating disorder, or any medical condition where you think this book might not be in your best interests to consume, please honour that. I didn't write this book to become a millionaire, I wrote it to be a useful resource for as many of you as possible, and this is a disclaimer which I think any weight loss book should have on it, because your wellbeing is more important than an author's bank balance, including mine.
It is also not a book for people who are sensitive to profanity, because I feel the need to call out weight loss industry bullshit, and if I think certain diets are a fucking terrible idea for you to follow, I am going to tell you that in precisely those words.
A big goal for this book is to take complex topics that are often very confusing, and give you all of the intricate details in a way that is simplified but not overdiluted. If you have followed me on any of my social media channels, the tone of the book is designed to be a natural extension of that, so you already know if my style of delivery feels appropriate for you. Each chapter is designed to be comprehensive, but I have included simplified explanations to make sure all of you can keep up with the topics. Most importantly, every section ends with 'how can I put this into action?' finisher, so you don't just feel like you are learning, you know how you can implement the information to make sure it is actually useful for you.
No. The only reason to write a follow-up book on the same topic is if I left information out of this version. When I wrote the first draft, it came out to a whopping 140,000+ words, which is basically the equivalent of two regular books smashed together. Rather than splitting it down the middle and selling two books individually (which would have been a far more sensible financial decision for me!) I paid two editors to help streamline it as much as possible so you only had to buy one book. I haven't left anything out, so there is no need for a second book on the same topic.
This book is the byproduct of me trying my best to tackle all of the bullshit information that the weight loss industry has to offer. There is no half-naked photo of me on the cover, subtly implying you can all have a six pack like me if you read the book. There are no misleading taglines, pretending that this book contains a revolutionary new diet plan that you have to try. There are no false promises like "lose 10kg in the next 30 days" (and claims like this are clearly garbage, not everyone can expect to lose the same amount of weight, right?) or "lose fat and keep it off forever" (which is a guarantee that nobody can promise you). I have written this book a bit like a menu, where I tell you the pros and cons of all the popular topics, which allows you to make the best decisions for yourself.
Most importantly, and I say this with the most love possible, I do not give a shit what your actual goal is. You are my metaphorical client, and it is not for me to tell you what you should and shouldn't do with your body. My job is to advise you on the best strategies and keep you safe in the process. For example, if your goal is to lose as much body fat as possible for a lucrative photo shoot, I will talk about dieting strategies that can help with that whilst also advising you of the potential risks you need to look out for. If your goal is to stop focusing on dieting completely, because you have found yourself obsessing about the number on the scale, or sacrificing your physical and mental health just to fit into a pair of jeans, I am going to talk about that as well. Every single topic is going to be a deep dive of the pros and cons so you can pick and choose what works for you and what doesn't, regardless of what your goal is.
